Update 8 June 2016 – Taxpayers’ money spent by councillor

rejected

Dear Supporters,
You will no doubt have seen that Cllr, Pamela Fleming plans to consult once more on the issue of Twickenham Riverside. The details are on our website www.riversideactiongroup.uk
The gist of the consultation as described by Councillor Fleming is thus:
“In response to the initial consultation, the architects have now reviewed all of the feedback. They have further developed their proposals to try and incorporate many of the themes suggested. These include:
• The need for a single open space
• Requirement for a wide Water Lane that will increase visibility of the river
• Simplifying the architecture on King Street and changing materials to match nearby buildings
• Identifying additional parking spaces
• Potential reduction of building height – particularly on the river front.”
You will note that few residents’ or shopkeepers’ concerns have been noted and a recent attempt to work with the Council in order to reach a sensible and equitable solution has been rebuffed. It is clear that Cllr. Fleming does not wish to hear the views of residents.
Today we received information via a Freedom of Information request that Cllr Fleming paid the architect, Francis Terry, the sum of £100K between the months January to May 2016. This has been paid via two purchase orders rather than opting for, as yet, a formal contract or Memorandum of Understanding. The payments raise the question: if the consultation genuinely seeks public opinion or approval why spend such a large amount of tax-payers’ money on a scheme that might be overturned by public dissent?
We leave it up to you to decide upon the credibility of this councillor and any consultation that may be presented from 19th July.
If you have not had a chance to sign our online petition I urge you to go onto our website and add your name.
Kind regards,

Susan Burningham
